VOLUNTEERING
Teach the Children the Right Way

Our activities are purely voluntary based and since we deal with children in school, women and the youth as well as communities in general, services are needed from voluntary teachers, social workers, voluntary health practitioners, and all others who can work in the foundation and the school to help bring joy, hope, happiness and salvation to the beneficiary children, youth, women and the general communities. We have various programmes that will suit each individual.
When you decide to come as a volunteer to Ghana, there are different reasons for which you can do so. You probably are interested in engaging yourself in a specific field of work. We therefore offer you a broad variety of different placements within our NGO in order to meet your personal requirements. You can teach in the foundation’s partner school and experience the differences between our school system and others. To make sure that you are in good care, our staff will support you every day, talk with you about the lessons and help you prepare lesson notes. On the other side you can help directly in the Young and Lonely Foundation office works and social works. Here you can bring in your own ideas or support us in our programmes. Alternatively if you are interested in medicine we can hook you up with our contacts at the local hospital that will be more than grateful for you help and support. However if your focus is on HIV/AIDs awareness you will be able to take part in lessons and awareness programmes, teaching the villagers about the dangers and preventions of HIV/AIDS as well as interacting with the PLHIVs, offering them support and counseling.

Our number one priority is to make sure your experience is everything you hoped for. Therefore we will customize your trip to suit your every need; whether you wish to stay in a guest house or live with a Ghanaian family, we can offer packages for all situations. The most influential factor hindering volunteers from coming to Ghana is the fear for diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS etc. Whilst we are aware that the diseases are active in the country, with precautions and common sense you are unlikely to contract it. As I am sure you are aware, HIV/AIDS is most commonly contracted through sexual intercourse or blood contact; as long as you are sensitive to the precautions of the disease, you are extremely unlikely to contract it. On the other hand, Malaria is more common yet you are prepared to experience life in Africa; using diet religiously, sleeping under a mosquito net, using mosquito aerosol sprayers, malaria is less likely to affect you.

Aid received from concerned agencies and philanthropists would assist us in solving difficulties we experience in financing the teaching staff of the school and organization, as well as community related operations.

The Foundation urgently needs voluntary teachers, social workers, donations such as clothing, food, drugs for children, cash, computers, teaching and learning materials, building materials or any gift from you for the orphans and the vulnerable children in the Young and Lonely Foundation; we also need farm equipment, agrochemicals as well as ideas for our Agriculture and Food Security Project. Be part of this project!
