The Young and Lonely Child Education Fund (YLCEF) is a support programme developed by the YLF to assist in the raising
of funds to support needy children recovered from the streets, slums, shanty places,
ghettoes etc., who are in need of education. Since March 2000, the fund has supported the education of seventeen
hundred deprived children in only Agona Swedru and its environs.
As part of the GRAMMAR, SCIENCE, INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY and VOCATIONAL integration of fields
of knowledge the Foundation aims at, an AGRICULTURAL/ VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE is soon to open so as
the youth could be equipped with vocations besides academic knowledge.
Funds are sought from other avenues for the implementation of the free education programmes. Based on our humble
dignity, we look forward to soliciting funds from organizations, associations, companies, co-operate entities,
and wealthy individuals in Ghana, and the world in general.
Applicants for the fund are approved based on the financial status of the child’s family or caretakers,
prevailing livelihood or talents and prospects.
Basically, this fund was first developed to assist in the empowerment of these orphans, the less
privileged and homeless children in Agona District. Beneficiaries of the fund are enrolled free
in the foundations partner educational institute, the St. Germain School Complex, also situated
in Agona Swedru.
This project seeks to take care of the educational needs of the less privileged children in the
country, including their physical needs, mental abilities and social well being.
Educational Aid for Children is a programme that takes place every year and as “The Child, our Hope for
Future”, many of the vulnerable children under the care of Young and Lonely Foundation have benefited from
this programme since the Foundation started operating in 1999 and has supported children in categories such
as Non fee paying up to date. The Commission is appealing to volunteers who have keen interest in the child's
well-being to contribute their quota, be it material things or finances to help upgrade the commission's work
and the needy children as well.
Under this Commission, the foundation supports a number of Children in three (3) categories.
(A) Children under nursery 1 and 2, kindergarten 1 and 2 are sponsored with the term’s tuition fees in
such a way that the registration fee for the child is what is needed, and that will cover everything until the
child is promoted to basic level (primary) and above; but as compared to the ones catered for in the boarding
house, there are differences. To sum it up, not less than three hundred (300) children are sponsored in this
category.
(B) Under category two, basic level 1 (primary) to senior high school students are sponsored. Approximately
a number of seventy (70) school children are sponsored partly due to their specific predicaments and all of
them are “Day students”.
(C) The foundation sponsors roughly thirty (30) vulnerable and needy children in full with food, shelter,
etc now in the boarding house. We appeal for funds from other entities and all helping bodies to come to
our aid to sponsor any of the above categories in all kinds at the St. Germain School Complex.
Under this project we are supporting orphans, street children and children from poor homes whose parents
might not be able to afford their fees, school uniforms, shoes, school bags and educational equipment.
The St Germain School has boarding facilities where homeless children can live and be catered for by
Volunteers and surrogate parents, who take them on as their own children and give them all the care,
love and understanding they need.
We appeal to all volunteers, philanthropists and child right advocates to help with their services and
donations to help achieve the objectives the foundation has for these children. Voluntary teachers and
all other educationists are of great need in the foundation to help teach these children all it will
require to make them successful human beings on earth. Thank you.
